Well, let it go into the future first.

It doesn't necessarily have to be ray guns and aliens. IW could put their own spin on it.

Just numbers instead of roman numerals. Lol.

I think CoD6 would have some similarities to BF: 2142. Plus, I always thought of Dec. 31 as "To be determined."

COD 4 > WAW > MW2

I'm fine with a futuristic setting as long as it doesn't end up like Halo.
I think 50 years into the future with newer, yet realistic technology would be good.

How do you know 50 years from now we won't have ray guns? campare today and 25 years ago, think of the new technology we have achieved, i think in 50 years we will have achieved something similar to a ray gun, i mean, we already have lasers that explode planes in midair

True.
I just don't want the CoD series to turn into Halo.

I honestly don't think we have technology like that for a couple of thousand years, not hand held anyway. You will need to think about storing the power soruce for use, make sure it doesn't overheat and to actually kill an enemy. And anyway, I just have a feeling we won't get weapons like that for a few thousand years. Anyway weapons take ages to go out of fashion, look at the sword, it was only stopped being used at the start of the century.

You're more than likely thinking of laser guidance systems. Several fighter jets, the Metal Storm thingy that fires a wall of bullets or grenades, and I think the Javelin uses this.
