Firewall ports for Xbox LIVE and Windows Vista Certified Devices
I think this is really important for all of the 360'ers and just wanted to post this to help anyone. Feel free to contact me on any questions. I am just trying to post this so that I can hopefully help anyone that is having problems. Most all of us use a router and there are 3 ports on there that have to be open in order to communicate with live and your friends and everything.

Seems like alot of people have this problem. I had it too until I found out that my friends didnt do what I did. Make sure on your router that you have the following ports open, especially on COD4. Even if your NAT says "open", do it. It opens up all communication in Xbox Live.

**NOTE: YOUR COMPUTER MUST BE CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO YOUR ROUTER WITH A CABLE TO MAKE THE CHANGES, DO NOT MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR ROUTER VIA WIRELESS**

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
TCP 80
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
UDP 53
TCP 53

You will have to go into your routers configuration page. I have a Linksys so I got to the web and type in: 192.168.1.1

Just open up those ports and dont forget to save your settings and you are good to go. Make sure your friends do it too. I had friends that I couldnt talk to but once they did this, they have no problems whatsoever! If you are still having problems, there is one more setting. It is called the DMZ setting. You may type an IP address in here and it will allow it to be free with no restrictions. On your Xbox go to Network Settings and write down your IP address that is listed. Use that same address in your DMZ configuration on your router and then just save it. WHALAH!

Here is another site that you can go to, it is very helpful:

Pick your router and then go to Xbox 360 Live

Hopefully this helps the Xbox Live Community!

You mean ENABLE uPnP. And an update for you halliday about the 660r series dsl modem. You have to put it into "bridged" mode in order for all ports to open to join teammates. Only problem with that is, you can only play on xlive or be on the internet not both. Sucks for ppl running hubs like myself. But if you buy a router it'll fix it.

Good to see this posted and stickied!  Applaud
I'd already set this up before on my old routers and did the same with the new one I got on sunday, don't know if it makes any difference as I've never had any problems though!
Tech support section sounds like a good idea, providing it was kept clean from all the worthless junk that invariably gets posted on the end of something useful (like this?  ROFL)

damn i would have never figured this out if i had to use a router. i just branch off a single cable coming off of the modem with a 8port switch. that feeds 2 laptops, xbox360. both laptops can be online at the same time, as well the 360 can be playing a game online with no problems what so ever.

This is only for Xbox live to be able to come through your internet so that you have a smooth connection and connect to everything...

A lot of modern routers automatically adapt and are compatible with things like Live... I found I had no problems with my current router but my last one had a few problems with things such as DLC and accepting Live codes.

Yeah, my old router I couldnt communicate or download things. I have the Linksys WRT330N now and I have no problems. I keep those ports open just in case though. I also updated it too, there are some new ports which is for Vista
