Seriously mailman... make sure everything is perfect if you wanna try that speed... I still remember nearly killing myself on an old CX500 Turbo that nearly got away from me when the turbo cut in unexpectedly... I had a non-turbo version of the CX500 (which I named "Ol' Thunderthud") and didn't feel any difference until the turbo cut in and then it tried to stretch me damned arms from the accelleration (and being shaft driven it was direct to the road power too). Shame the turbos were problematical in the reliability dept or I might have got one at some later date.

And remember, even a pebble on the road at that speed you are gonna tumble...

Topping it out is going to be a all day thing, First will be a full out inspection of the bike, then go for a cruise to town to check everything, then that night (saturday) Ill go to the local drag strip, which would be the best thing, since i can get my times and speed so it can be documented, and a hell of alot safer than just finding a long stretch of road.

and plus no cops :)

Sensible...

Plus try throwing a rod at 90 (which is what I did once) on a motorway... BAD NEWS!!

Oh and my advice is to run the engine in for a couple of weeks at least... will be less engine wear when you thrape it on the drag strip.

dude thats crazy, i know my self well enough that i can never own a motorcycle. i will putt around the hood for a few weeks, then i will start getting out on to some what main streets. still doing the speed limit, nothing stupid yet. once i get good there i will end up on free ways, that is when i will huntch down, and crack that throttle all the way back. thus ending my life with my luck.

so take the train course a few times, and just take it easy. 165 is about what i would expect the top speed would be depending on bike. hell my first time on a  4 wheeler, i took  it slow and learned everything. 15 minutes into it i was bored, 2nd time i rode. i was in N,  revved up and clicked it into first. popped a wheelie, let off, punched it again before the front tires hit the ground. popped it up a 2nd time, redlined 1st so it came down. i clicked into 2nd about the time the front tires hit the ground, full throttle again and just ran through 5th at a full throttle. scared the **** out me. since then i have almost died like 8 times, and its now that i am slowing down cuz i got ahead of my self. and this is a little sport utility 250 4wheeler. if it was a bike i woudl already be dead, i know it, and every one that knows me knows it.

Hold on... is this your first motorbike?  Shocked

If it is... DON'T DO IT! Not until you've done a lot of training first... things like learning where the center of balance is on your bike and why things like riding on the pegs is better than sliding your feet along the ground in icy weather. I used to teach years ago and even I would worry about running a bike at that speed and I've had a load of bikes over the years.
