The word bed actually looks like a bed.

« on: March 13, 2009, 06:59:33 AM »

So after getting a little on the heavier side I decided to slim down big time and get lean and cut for the summer. I have been lifting heavy and gaining a lot of weight so I look bigger but now thats getting a little rough on the heart and what not.

If anyone wants to take place in a little thing with me its called: Calorie Count from About.com. Pretty much you make an account and you have to start your diet by March 15th 11:59PM Pacific time this weekend and I will add you to the challenge. The challenge is to meet your goal weight by July 1st. I am starting tomorrow with my diet and I am at 5'7" 185lbs trying to get to 160lbs by July 1st.

Rules:
1. Your Goal has to be reasonable but at the same time real. Losing 2lbs in almost 4 months is just plain stupid. The minimum weight your goal has to be is 10lbs gain or lose.
2. You need to take a before picture, during picture (Sometime in May), and the final picture. If your not comfortable with this then don't take part in the Challenge.
3. If anyone makes fun of a member who either weighs too much or too little, they will get an instant permaban. (I am serious.) Encouragement is the only thing allowed. I will be stickying this thread in the Competitions thread after sunday so people can keep posting there.
4. You have to lose weight or gain weight depending on your goal. If you weigh 120 and want to get to 140 then that has to be your goal. You must establish your goal and everyone who is participating must keep everyone updated on how they are doing.
5. This is based purely on an honor system. You can take pictures obviously but anything can be photoshopped these days. If your doing this just to get a badge, your in it for the wrong reasons. Do it for yourself and if you lie, I won't know, but you will know, and thats 10x worse.
6. If you fail the challenge you will still get a badge, a different one, but you will get one for participating. If you complete the challenge and you win your goal, you will get a badge and a signature.

Completing your Goal by July 1st:
Badge + Signature
Completing Goal after July 1st:
Badge + Different Signature from one above
Competing in Challenge:
Badge

I hope at least 1 of you will take part in this with me. My gf is doing it with me, and even though she is only trying to lose 5 lbs 125-120 it gave me the motivation to start it up. Pictures will be posted on EG for everyone to see. This is so we can all motivate each other to do well and to complete our goals! And for those of you who participate in it we can compare diets, exercise programs, etc. I have some great foods to eat that are low in calories but delicious tasting Smiley

The website to sign up is: http://caloriecount.about.com/ If you sign up I will start a group for EG only members and we can see how everyone is doing.

If you have ANY questions post them here and I or my GF will answer them ASAP. She knows a lot more about it than I do hahaha.

Good Luck guys!

Ok I have decided to join, Motivation is always a good way to get something done.

So my Goal is to go from 297 which is the weight I was last week at my doctors appt to 277 or less by July 1st.

I attempted to lose weight or at least buff up some when I first moved into my apartment, but its hard to be able to go to the store and buy foods that are healthy, mainly because I only have 100-120 dollars to spend at the store to be able to last 2 weeks until I am able to go back, so I have to get stuff that is filling, cheap, and will last for a couple of days: (hot pockets, chips, chef boyardee, and so forth) I am probally about to go to the store with in the next couple of days so I will see what I can find.

Now that I work back at the hospital and can walk 10 miles or more in a 8 hour shift, it is starting to help, I also need to look into their weight room since I know some co-workers that use the Wellness center and its pretty cheap, so I might be a good idea to start going after school or before school.

I am just going to have to start watching what I eat alot more, and getting back into my weight lifting program that I had going, but just stopped one night and never got back into it.

I guess Ill have to see how it goes.

AWESOME!

Here are a few things. At that weight you will be able to probably actually lose more than 20 lbs. I really would like it if you shot for 267 mailman. I really really think you could do that. Especially if you got on an awesome weight training program. I really thing you can do it. Think about it.

I just edited my post, but if I can get into a program I think I can lose more than I want.

This just might be me, but I have never owned a scale, hated them with a passion, its like you get on it and it just makes you feel bad. Only time I know my weight is when I go to my doctor, and that is one thing that made me want to lose weight is that I was SHOCKED that I weighed almost 300, but didnt feel like I weighed that much, I thought I was around 280 or so.

I felt that way too. I'm a small guy, always have been so when i started lifting a lot and eating a lot I was getting a lot stronger, I felt good, but didn't look the best, but I didn't care cause I could out lift a lot of other guys. Really hit me when I hopped on the scale and saw I gained almost 10lbs. Even though its muscle still doesn't feel right when your looking at the scale haha.

^Haggard said you could do either.

I'm in too I guess. I'm at 229 and I want to get down to about 180 or so. But for this deal I'll go for 200.
I've been going to the gym and shit. So I already started to lose weight. About 20 pounds already. I just don't like counting calories and looking at the scale too much. SO we'll see how this goes.

I'm going to be starting a regimen of healthier eating (already working on that) and exercise as soon as it gets warm enough that the ice goes away so I can walk/jog/run outside without hurting myself. I'll start weights shortly after that and keep increasing my volume of activity on a weekly basis while I try to keep track of what I do in a notebook.

I'd join you in this but I'm going to keep away from numbers for a while when I begin this, it'll be easier for me to continue on a regular basis and make it a solid part of my day. Good luck to you all on this challenge, though.

I know what you mean Eronios. It's hard to lose weight when you counting all this stuff.

That and I over-think just about everything. If I think about something too much, it loses all value to me personally and I end up not caring about it anymore...which I absolutely cannot let happen this time.

Add to that the fact that I always have a song in my head (from the time I wake up until I'm drifting off to sleep) and it's a wonder I'm able to pay attention to anything I do.

I believe I feel comfortable with my weight (185 lbs as of yesterday), but I also think I could drop a few pounds if I worked hard at it. Until I deem it necessary to drop some weight, I'm gonna continue to work on my arms and abdominal region just to strengthen them.

Good luck dudes, and I believe that the more fun you have at losing weight, the faster it will drop.

Here is what happens.

1st: You set your weight then you set your goal weight and you want to achieve it by July 1st.
2nd: You then set your activity level. I set mine as Light Activity. I walk around a lot, mainly around college so thats why.
3rd: Everyday you put in there what you eat. If you can't find what you ate, you make it up. Example: If you went to a restaurant and had a burger. They do not have the burger on caloriecount.com. You go to the restaurant website and look at the nutrition facts. Make up the food on caloriecount.com and enter it for that day.
4th: At the end of the day click on My Account. You will see TWO boxes. It will say what you ate for the entire day and to the left it will say your "estimated" calories burned depending on what you set your activity level. You take the TOTAL ESTIMATE: (Which is above the bigger number) You take this number - the eat meter (the big number) and thats your deficit.
5th: Your deficit is your weight loss. If your deficit is 0 or a negative you will stay the same weight or gain weight. If your deficit is between 500-800 you will lose on average 1lb-2lb a week if you can keep it up.

Just click around on the website. Try and figure it out and look at the activities. If you go and workout that day you can add that into the activity log. Once you do that it will boost up your estimated calories burned which means you can eat more but not much more because you want that deficit to be between 500-800.

If this doesn't make that much sense I'll have my gf get on and type it up. She explains it a lot better :)

So after 1 week of doing it:
I lost 4 lbs of fat.
I gained about 3 lbs of muscle
My weight has increased on all weight lifting machines, meaning im getting stronger.
And I no longer crave fast food.

Woot!

I'm trying to gain weight... slowly creeping up on 109 (I've been at 108 for centuries now) and I'd like to be 115 by the end of the school year. I now have a six pack... but it's kind of lame and needs flexing to see any definition.

5'8"

I have a scale that somehow determines my body fat (i don't think it's very accurate lol) but it says 3% of me is fat. I think that's fatal. lol.

And I knew a guy who was... 6'1"? and he wieghed the same I did. And I thought I was skinny... the kid looked like one of those emaciated jews rescued from the concentration camps.

You should be around 130-140 and you will be looking pretty ****in sexy, no homo.

The key to gaining weight fast, if your not doing this already, start working out your legs, HARD! You will be amazed at how fast you can gain muscle and weight on your legs, its incredible.

I am at 5 gym days a week right now, with everyday hitting a different body part. My strength has increased through the roof and im gaining muscle at an incredible pace.

Its super easy to gain weight, despite what you may think. The only thing is gaining the right weight. You can gain about...5lbs a week of pure muscle if you do it right.

Haha the problem for me is just eating enough. I can't do it. After I eat dinner I always have room for seconds but never go for it.

And yeah I do need to work on my legs. I'm so chicken-legged it's ridiculous.

Gaining weight is expensive and tiring. I remember when I weighed about 130 and wanted to get to 145, it was hard as hell. I was tired all the time because all I was doing was eating haha.

I am six feet six inches, weighing 230 pounds.  I used to weigh 250 with not nearly as much muscle(not bragging).  I lost 50 pounds in three months.  Sure, it was in boot camp that I lost the weight, but they have a system there.  Cardio, Diet, 8 hours sleep. I am in the Marine Corps, and I've helped a lot of Marines lose weight, the main things you have to consider is that pumping iron only makes you gain weight.  You're getting stronger, but muscle weigh more than fat, so you're really being counterproductive.  A lot of people I know think the same way, but if you just do cardio, you will drop the weight fast, that is, if you're keeping with your diet.  Another thing a lot of people misconceive is that if you cut carbs, you lose weight.  Yes, this works, but it's hell on your body, two weeks into this diet, you will find yourself zapped of energy.  Instead just watch what you eat(and drink).  Fruits are a good filler that give you energy, and bread has plenty of carbs to give you energy during your cardio.  Try drinking a 12 ounce glass of water before every meal, you will get full faster, and thus eating less(not to mention you need to stay hydrated).  Cardio is key, wether you're walking, running, biking, or swimming, it is essential in losing weight.  If you try starving yourself, sure you'll lose weight, but you'll also lose muscle.  Your body burns into your bodies protein before getting into the stored fat.  If you find a plan that works for your body, wether you're trying to lose weight, or gain muscle mass, you will see results.  The main thing is sticking with it.  If you miss one day, it'll become easier to lose the next, then the next, so on and so forth.  I hope this helped in some small way, and good luck with your program

I have managed to gain almost 15 lbs since last summer, and I've recently started working out more often. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get back down.

Did you gain 15lbs of muscle? Or just 15lbs in general?

Seriously the only way to lose weight is to stop eating so much. We as Americans eat so much damned food, its kinda crazy to think of how little proportions are outside the U.S. and they are much healthier than we are.

It's probably a little bit of both. And I'm might just have the worst diet ever. Kind of surprising that I was able to lose 50 lbs in the first place with how bad I was eating. Only thing the I really did change was I just stopped drinking soda all together, and hit the gym HARD.

Heres a few more things to try.

1. Drink a 12oz glass of water when you wake up, to get your metabolism going.
2. Tic-Tacs help create saliva in your mouth, get some sugar free ones and put them under your tongue, they will also trick your body into getting the metabolism going.
3. Do not eat any carbohydrates after 9pm. As gamers this is kinda difficult to do lol.
4. Change up your workout routine every 3-5 weeks. So lets say you do a lot of free weights, and a lot of running. Switch it up to cable workouts and do the stairmaster. A switch like that.

Thats good also, but some people hate it because they have to pee in the middle of the night, but if you can hold it down, good for you.

Im pretty impressed you have reduced soda, that is very hard for people to do. Here are some other things you can try. When your sitting in class, try and sit with a really straight posture, and flexing your abs a little bit. See how long you can hold it. This will really help with your core and give it muscle memory to understand to keep your back straight.

My eating habits have gone to hell.

Think amusement park food and lots of beer almost every day.
