Shhh. My common sense is tingling.

« on: March 22, 2009, 10:55:43 PM »

A lot of deaths this time around. And, unfortunately, one of the paths is gone forever.

Day 1, Part 3 Results
If you are still in the house,

A.) Try to sneak over to your car (through the back door).
B.) Board the entire house up.
C.) Gather supplies into a backpack then check the TV for more news.

A.) Try to sneak over to your car: You decide it would be best to just get away as fast as possible, so you get dressed and grab your car keys from the nightstand next to your bed. You rush down the stairs and out the back door. You slow down immediately as the darkness engulfs you. You make it to your car without incident, unlock the door, quietly shut the door behind you, and lock it. You set the hammer down in the passenger seat and put the key in the ignition and crank it. The engine fires up and you jam it into reverse and peel out down your driveway. You throw it into drive and laugh to yourself as you squeal away down the street. ALIVE

B.) Board the entire house up: After hearing the moaning coming from outside, you think it best to scavenge as much wood from your furniture as possible and seal every first floor entrance off. You concentrate on the living room windows and door first, then proceed to spread your limited supply of wood across the rest of the level’s weak spots. Your handiwork holds out for a few hours but the mob outside continues to grow exponentially. Eventually they get in and they trap you on the second floor. You run to the closest window to jump out, but there are hundreds of people all around your lawn. You realize your mistake then. You climb out on the roof and try to keep the invaders from following but you soon tire out and make a critical mistake: losing your balance. You fall off the roof into the sea of people below, who rip you apart. DEAD

C.) Gather supplies, check the TV: You take an old backpack and stuff it with bottled water and as much food from your fridge and pantry as possible. You also take a flashlight from the utility drawer in the kitchen, just in case, and keep the hammer on you and all times. You turn the TV on and see a man who is being interviewed by a national station. He states that the military will accept anyone who shows up at the evacuation posts and once that is done they will start their push into the major cities to take control of the situation. The bottom of the screen has several evacuation points scrolling across. The broadcast recommends people stay in their homes until daylight, then try to make their way to the evacuation points. A sudden crash off to the side takes your focus from the television. Several hands are reaching through the living room windows and one of them is grabbing the couch. A weird creaking sound fills the room and the front door busts open. You quickly decide that being mobile is better than trying to keep your house safe, so you grab the backpack and hightail it for the back door. You take the flashlight from the side pocket of the backpack and turn it on so you don’t trip on anything. You run straight across the lawn and a side street. You see a four-door sedan in a driveway with nobody immediately around. There is a single light on in the house near the car. ALIVE

If you went out the back door,

A.) Try to sneak to your car.
B.) Make your way through your neighbors’ backyards with the flashlight on.
C.) Make your way through your neighbors’ backyards with the flashlight off.

A.) Try to sneak to your car and drive away: You decide it would be best to just get away as fast as possible. You sneak around the side of your house in the darkness and make it to your car without incident. You unlock the door and quietly shut the door behind you and lock it. You set the hammer and backpack down in the passenger seat and put the key in the ignition and crank it. The engine fires up and you jam it into reverse and peel out down your driveway. You throw it into drive and laugh to yourself as you squeal away down the street. ALIVE

B.) Backyards with the flashlight on: You flick the switch and move the beam of light around to familiarize yourself with the surrounding area. You run across the wet lawn and your shoes start to squeak from the dew. You dodge a hole that was probably made by a gopher or some other dumb animal. You eventually reach your neighbor’s house but decide it’s better to pass it completely and try sticking to the shadows between streetlights (and turn the flashlight off temporarily) as you cross the street toward another house. Once across, you see a four-door sedan in a nearby driveway. There is a light on inside the house. ALIVE

C.) Backyards with the flashlight off: The idea of stealth sticks in your mind so you keep the flashlight’s probing beam off. You cross through your closest neighbor’s backyard but soon find yourself face down on the wet grass: you stepped on or in something awkwardly and twisted your ankle. You bite your lip so you don’t cry out. You crawl as fast as you can but it’s not fast enough...a different group of assailants finds you and rip you apart. DEAD

Day 1, Part 4
If you are safely across the street by the car,

A.) See if the car is locked, and if it is, break a window to get in and try to hotwire it (you know how to hotwire a car).
B.) Bypass both the car and the house and head to Lockwood Park.
C.) Go in the house.

Day 1 consists of five parts but Days 2 and 3 are still up in the air. I hope they will be six and seven, respectively. I'm also really glad I didn't start Day 2 yet because of who chose what options (half of it would have been wasted completely).

It's survival right now. And the "less of a douchebag" answer is: nobody knows yet.   Grin

I am going to have to say B, its what I would do since i can't hotwire a car, and i would think if you got in the car and then could not get it hot wired then you are stuck there if you are surrounded and such, since you are being chased.

Day 4 Results
A.) Check the car, break the window to get in: You hurry to the car but it’s locked. You glance around to make sure no one is around before you smash the rear passenger window so you won’t be sitting in the glass. A loud alarm goes off as you hop in and crawl up to the driver’s seat. You pull the plastic covering off of the steering column, exposing the wires. Thanks to the headlights intermittently flashing, you are able to locate the proper wires but you hear an odd sound behind you and look over your shoulder: a mob is quickly surrounding the car and one of the assailants is crawling in after you. You try to defend yourself but can’t swing the hammer effectively in the tight quarters. The mad man bites your arm and you instantly feel queasy. It is not long before the other people break the windows and drag you out onto the lawn before killing you. DEAD

B.) Walk to Lockwood Park: You jog past the house and head north to Lockwood Park. You keep out of the streetlights as much as possible to avoid being seen but a high-pitched roar emits from somewhere behind you. Without looking back, you run as fast as you can but it is not fast enough. A tug on your shoulder spins you around and you use the momentum to smash the hammer into the attacker’s jaw, which breaks off entirely and flies into the night. You manage a decent defense against the advancing horde but they are do an even better job of ripping you apart. DEAD

C.) Go in the house: You walk up to the house and turn the doorknob but the door is locked. You turn back to the street, wondering if you should try to steal the car just as the door open and something hard jams into the back of your head. A feminine voice tells you to say something, so you ask her to please not kill you. She backs away and tells you to get inside. You walk into the house and see a man lying on the couch with a blood-speckled bandage wrapped around his forearm. The woman has a pump-action shotgun trained on you. The woman tells you to put her husband into the backseat of the car. You again comply under threat and soon you help the man into the rear driver side seat, after she unlocks the doors with the remote on her keyring. She gets in the front passenger seat and tells you to drive the two of them to St. Luke’s hospital at 1320 Wisconsin Avenue, which you do. She turns the radio on and a local station comes to life with a story that a state of emergency has been declared in Wisconsin and Illinois and everyone should head to the nearest military evacuation post immediately, staying inside your home at this point would be a fatal mistake. She turns it off and tells you to hurry, which you already are doing. The route goes mostly down Washington Avenue and is very clear of cars until you cross WI-20 and reach 14th Street. You weave in and out of traffic and before you know it, you pull up to the hospital. Dozens of injured people are heading into or walking around outside the building. The woman gets out, collects her husband, and walks into the hospital. She left the shotgun in the front seat. ALIVE

Alive

Dead
Skud Missile - Died being chivalrous.
BAB3r    - Died with a bad case of bed head.
Haggard - Died alone in the dark.
Red Intensity - Died trying to be sneaky.
SupaPenguin - Died defending his home.
NeoMorph - Died after not watching his step.
Homeles - Died with a grunt and a grimace.
Wyatt - Died breakin the law, breakin the law.
S1L3NT - Died with his running shoes on.
SeeNoEyez - Died after thinking it was easier to run.
KronicMayhem - Died trying to hoof it.
X-Pac- Died trying to reach the horizon.
swsmailman - Died in the great exodus.
albertwesker2 - Also died in the great exodus.

Well, damn. I was hoping someone would survive that last bit. The logic there was breaking the car window would be a lot of noise, running on foot would leave you way too vulnerable and you only had a hammer and big knife as defense, and there was a light on inside the house and a car was in the driveway, which suggested somebody was still alive there.

I'll start working on Day 2 right away, which is great because everyone was heading for the marina anyway as everyone missed out on the farmhouse. Everyone and anyone who wants to will be able to play Day 2, but no one will get the third badge, sadly (which reminds me to PM Haggard).

Instead of calling it Day 2 do it by locations... Say New York or Salem or wherever... (reason is there are Day numbers as we proceed through the adventure)... and perhaps give peeps one "Get out of death" card to play. If you make it through without playing your G.O.O.D. card (like the acronym) you get a survivalist badge too.

Just a couple of ideas there...

This could be fun...

That's a good idea, especially since I thought I was starting off easy and working to the hard chapters but I think my hints kind of fell off the edge of the planet when I put them in. I'm starting on Day 2 but it's definitely not the next day, so locations could very well be what I do next instead. If anyone has any other feedback, let me know. I was trying to keep it within normal capabilities and logic with each option.

We should get bonuses in categories but can only choose one per round(of course we start out with nothing)
and as it starts we get weak bonuses but eventually progresses to the good stuff. i like these categories:
Weapons:Steel pipe and other melee weapons and fire arms
Items:Like the get out of death card or Zombgone(lol)
Abilities:(not super human abilities) like able to pick locks or hotwire vehicles or able to move without making any noise. just an idea.

You guys are making it alot harder than it needs to be.

 ROFL
That's what I was thinking.
Adding all these new bonuses is making things too complicated.

I only mentioned a Get Out Of Death to stop what happened with this one... you get one chance to screw up and survive...

Yeah, that suggestion sounds good.
But your suggestion led to a whole bunch of new ideas that will complicate the game.

How about we just throw these suggestions around and let Eronios decide.

Or make even that complicated. lets put all ideas on large poster paper.

Then we throw eronios around until he lands on a few to decide.

I almost spit milk out my nose when I read that. Priceless.

Anyway, a GOOD card sounds like a great idea, but how should I implement it? Say you make it to Part 3 and choose wrong, should I just default your answer to one that keeps you alive or should I let you choose another option?

If there's more than 1 answer that keeps us alive, then you should let us choose which one.

I had planned on starting the next part up on this past weekend but I forgot it was Easter and had my hands tied with family obligations.

Implementing the G.O.O.D. card meant removing differing paths that I already had in place (i.e. in the first one you either ended at a farmhouse or a marina) so I'm reworking and strengthening the story and I should be posting part two in the next few days. I think it's going to be a lot more immersive and easier to survive through with the card, although there will be casualties as it progresses.

So what would you guys rather have done with the G.O.O.D. card? Auto-advance to the next part or would you rather pick from the options again?

I'm keeping this one linear so we don't have problems with branching paths, which means an auto-advance just basically means you skip a wrong choice and automatically make it to the next choice. If you pick from the options again, there's no guarantee of survival and I'm not 100% sure how I'd make that work if the results are already posted.

I'm thinking an auto-advance would work smoother but let me know what you guys think.
