Well, the story for it, at least. Right now it's just over 338 pages and editing starts tomorrow. I hope to cover 20 or 30 pages a day but that may be a bit unrealistic because I have to alter so damn much because my writing style evolved even from last September and especially from when I started it in 2001.

Fantasy with a dose of Science Fiction. It centers on a kid who has to come to terms with things that are out of his hands but are controlling him directly while trying to figure out why he causes so many bad things to happen.

book sounds gnarly, from what I've read of your stories and what not on here, it ought to be a good book.

I think I actually had the title before I even started writing: Shattered Mists. I can't remember how I came up with it, either, but it always gave me some nice imagery to work with.

I don't know about an early PDF, it's going to be a chore to get all this edited to how I see the story in my head...I really sucked at writing when I began this way back in the day. Plus having freshly read Harry Potter when I jumped back into this didn't help at all because of the child/teen angst in that series.

This will require several, several, several coats of primer.

Remember when you print it out it has to be single sided sheets, double spaced lines (so comments can be added between them) and don't make the mistake of trying to make it look like a book because the publishers don't like it.

As it is Fantasy/SciFi you might want to take a look at Baen Books ( http://baen.com ). As you are a new writer the book will probably go into the "slush pile". Don't be put off because all slush means is books from new writers. Register at Baen's Bar to see what I mean. Some are ok but some are OMGWTF... lol. I think my damned Angelwar book would enter that category. If I want to get it published eventually I really need to attack it some more. It was originally written in Wordperfect on a DOS 3.11 laptop while I was stuck in a hospital bed.

Main thing though dude... DO... NOT.... GIVE... UP... Most likely you will get rejections... most of the known authors got rejections for books that eventually made millions for the authors. Persevere (unlike me who gave up at the first hurdle lol). My fault was trying to get my book in when I was suffering bad depression so any critism was like a sword through the gut. My advice to you is to do what I did 10 years after I finished my book and that is get a decent "How to write Sci-Fi" book. I did loads wrong (including that book-like printing and not double spaced) and that book pointed out how to do it.

Also if you are going to go pro eventually you will need to read the "proofs" so you can edit the mistakes out. Looks like heiroglyphics to me lol. You also need to look into the subject of agents. They are the ones if you can get a book ok'd are the ones who will do the hard work of finding a publisher. It will cost of course but in the long run it will get your foot in the door.

It will be hard going BUT DO NOT GIVE UP... I hope this bit of amatuerish advice helps in some way...

Thanks for the advice, Neo. I've always had it double-spaced but I started it in Word on a Windows '98 machine and then transferred it to Word 2003 on an XP machine and after I reformatted I had to go to Open Office but the formatting stayed as I had it, so that's a touch of luck.

One thing I know for certain is I'm not going to give up on this ever. If it takes two, five, ten years to get published--I'm going to do it. Part of the appeal of what I'm doing is a trilogy, which interests publishers more than a solitary book especially when you have the storyline all figured out and a head start on the second and, if I make it there before being published, the third novel. This has been with me for so long that it's a part of me and I know I'll be sad to see it end, even if I don't get the ending I wanted (which is still up in the air and depends solely on two characters).

The genre is Fantasy with a small dose of Science Fiction. Certain elements could be seen as either or both but there are clear parts that adhere to just one genre. While I have some Sci Fi, the majority of it is Fantasy because I know how difficult a Sci Fi book can be to make and keep consistent. And I know Fantasy far better. I've read it since 1993 and I know what makes a good story, what doesn't, and what keeps readers reading.

Hell, I might even be able to market it as Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Mystery because I still don't know everything that happens, just a very general outline.
