I've been playing with Windows 7 on my new PC and atm I have to say that it looks nice but it seems to be less intuitive than Windows XP... ie it's bloody hard to find stuff at times.

Maybe I just need to give it more time... I dunno... I just seem to prefer XP because it seems to be faster and way more stable. The only thing against me putting XP onto the new PC is that it is a 64bit dual core machine. I just have this feeling that it would just make the thing run slower using a 32bit OS.

Anyone else using Windows 7 atm?

i just got windows 7 with the new desktop i got for christmas.

i think it's fantastic, but i was stuck with vista for the last several years, so DOS would have been a step up from that.

I never had Vista... mainly because no PC I had would run it lol.

I did hear so many bad things from it though... no drivers for hardware, clunky interface etc..

The main thing about Win7 is I have to keep going online to search for how to do stuff that is second nature to me in XP. Simple things such as changing the Workgroup. Homegroup was mucking up my home network you see.

My laptop came with vista - that lasted almost 24 hours before being torn off and XP pro going on..... Shocked
I've got a dual boot for 7 now on the laptop but haven't even used it for about two months so that gives you an idea of my opinion on it!
Simple things like them killing off outlook express (I hate outlook and windows mail) and the awkwardness off finding things that I know how to do in XP (I'm pretty good at tweaking it to my needs so had to start all over again in 7).
Plus the new virtual pc (or xp mode to be precise) doesn't work on my laptop (old version did though) since the processor doesn't have virtualisation (it's "only" a dual core intel centrino 1.73gig with 2 gig ram FFS!!!, hardly outdated... Angry) and the software I use for running the nightclub lighting when I do a gig also is very unstable on 7, quite often crashing on either load or exit and no amount of compatability settings will cure it. (since I'm not a registered user I can't get any support on that front  Wink)
I'll stick with XP for now, I've even been dragging my heels on office 2007 and only gone over this week since my work forced the "upgrade" recently so I'm getting used to it (with a classic menu addon since I HATE the stupid fecking ribbon they've forced onto us with no option for the classic interface - slowed me down no end considering the huge number of macros I've written at work with custom menu buttons that are all gone now. Grrrrrrrr.)

Yeah... XP Pro is the best by far I think... Normally they say "Familiarity breeds contempt!" but in this case I say "Familiarity breeds happyness!". XP Pro is stable, is reasonably laid out and is easy to use. Win7 is really confusing because everything has moved around and put into pretty menus.

I'm using Win7 Home Premium atm but I think I might just junk it and make it a linux machine running XBMC. The whole purpose was for it to be my HD media center after all... I just was wondering if I could get it to do other stuff as well.
