Ok, I love the Insanity mode, but I have a problem. Gamestop is taking trade-ins and adding +50% right now until early march. They say that Mass Effect 2 is trading well, around 35$, so that plus the 10% of my Gamer's Edge card makes Mass Effect tought for me to keep. Plus, Insanity is crazy hard, and I'm losing patience with many fights taking waaay long. Thoughts?

I'm really getting into Insanity mode... BUT for those dumbass idiot squadmates and the silly cover system that kicks in at all the wrong times and doesn't kick in when you want it.

Here is an example of what just happened to me...

  • EX1: I'm playing an Adept who got caught out of position... I run back to a pillar but as I am running the stupid system is looking for ANY wall to stick to... so I get near the pillar AND THE ****ING GIT STICKS TO THE SIDE OF THE PILLAR FACING INTO THE CORRIDOR... The time taken to unstick and then turn back to the right area was too long and I died.

I really do wish there was a cover button rather than have it automatically happen... same with a crouch button... For combat games you really need a crouch button and not have to rely on a dodgy cover system that doesn't do what you want. Here is another example...

  • EX2: You are down behind a barrier when and explosion knocks you to your feet (shouldn't that be the other way around too lol) and you are exposed. You frantically click the sequence to get yourself back behind the barrier but they dumbass system thinks "Ahh... he wants to get over it" and vaults you over right into the middle of the enemy fire. Bang! Dead again.

Ugh, man I been there. This difficulty also really shows how stupid your squad AI is... I spend every fight manually positioning my squadmates several times over, simply because they constantly run straight into fire and into several enemies at once.

I got all my chars except Samara then got thrown on the Collector ship... Now I can't even make my way off the platforms because my dumbass squadmates keep dying on me and the game keeps glitching on me too. Whoever thought using "Forward + A" for cover and "Forward + A" to jump out over the top of the cover and into the open is a good design needs to get a contract taken out on them.... maybe I should ask Krios if he will help lol.

But seriously though, I hate losing to bloody glitches. If I lose to bad skill then it's one thing... if it's losing to crappy coding then it's another... ME2 Insanity... crappy coding.

I even worked out what I needed to do on my own... Distract the Scions with drones and stop Harbinger with the Singularity. Done that... but then even then I have the drone appearing in weird places (ie 6 foot to the side of the target and then dropped off the side of the platform), Singularity gets stuck about 2 foot from you on nothing, I die even when nothing is hitting my shield (and the shield is at 100%), I jump over barriers when I mean to take cover behind them, I get killed when I am crouching behind cover, I fail to regain health even when taking cover behind a barrier... not for AGES..., I get stuck looking 90 degrees to where I am aiming (that was a crap one... nearly got killed by the Thresher Maul because of that pos bug)...  the list goes on. And the squad Artificial Idiots need to get a brain. WHY STAND UP WHEN YOU HAVE NO ****ING SHIELDS... Can't be a hard bit of coding that... But nooooooo... Tali joins Moronda in the dumbass move stakes.

Well blow me if one of the peeps on the Bioware boards didn't give me some good advice... He said to use the Geth Assault Rifle. I had forgotten that I picked that up... Decided to have one more try and I did it... just made it off the Collector Vessel and saved and turned everything off... I now have a huge migraine on the way... I hate it when that happens.

Word, go alien. And yea, I'm sticking with it. It's starting to get a bit easier.. BTW, you don't continue to accrue points after you reach level 30 right? Ugh, that would've been handy...

Actually if you go with Liara for ME1 it actually gives you more of the story of what happened between ME1 and ME2 and how you came to be in Cerberus hands...

Turns out that Liara couldn't live without you and did everything in her power to get you back... including giving you to Cerberus because of their Lazarus program. This was my fourth run through and the first I had heard about it... came as a bit of a shock when she said it.

But omg Kronic... lol... Talk about a bit of a downer...

In ME2 you can only do Tali if you are male too it seems. Hey, who else thinks that Quarians are going to look similar to cats or maybe beavers? Pointed muzzle that is for sure... just look at the shape of their masks.

It's not a waste of time, it's really intresting. I'm always up for a good story in a game, why I play alot of RPGs, they usually have the best ones, with alot of background infomation.

Normally i can't stand RPG's there just too much bs in between the action and the only thing about ME that keeps me interested is that it has enough shooter in it for it to be fun, none of that stop and select where you want to shoot the enemy crap.  Sitting there going through a long convo with the characters bores me cause i usually leave and get a drink or something to eat while the convos take place, can't do that with ME cause you gotta sit there choosing what to say.  Gets really annoying especially when you are going the paragon route because convos last longer and you must pretend to care about these other characters and shit, i do enjoy the renegade side of it though.  Telling them to go screw themselves and shooting people rather then talking to them is much more efficient lol.

That's how I accidentally had Wrex killed in ME1 and Jack to become disloyal in ME2. I now press X a little slower so I can see the renegade/paragon options.

Oh, and now I'm getting pissed off from playing this game on insane as well. I've gotten the first of two explosives in Tali's recruitment mission, now I'm freaking stuck in that small cave when a bunch of geth and a geth prime that's a really tough engineer, and I'm stuck with Zaeed and Miranda. Combat drone coming towards me one side, geth prime on another, instant mech sandwich almost every time. Oh, and I'm playing as a shotgun adept, which may mean this particular character is ****ed, and I've gotten through some nigh-impossible things (scions and boss at Horizon with no armor-penetrating capabilities or drones whatsoever, and two other things I've forgotten).

Yes that is discovered rather fast while playing this game but you also risk choosing the wrong thing that you need to say to get the Paragon/Renegade points you want.  Had they made the skip dialogue button like Y or RB or something that didnt choose anything during dialogue that would have been smarter.

I know the script quite well after multiple playthrough, and considering where paragon/renegade choices are I hold the stick in the right direction, just in case, though usually I like listening to people speak. I well written script will keep me far more entertain then alot of gameplay in other games.

Most likely explained it wrong, gameplay is important for me as well, but I always find that I go back to games which have a good script and storyline. Also playing RPGs, you create the character how you want them to be. So in someways, you yourself are helping set the story. Thats just my opinion though.

Guess how I sorted that....

At the back of the cave there is a bunch of crates... and a yellow truck you can climb onto and hide in. Prime keeps trying to shoot you and fails... Depending on what class you are just pound on him and duck down to heal... none of them can get to you so it's just a slog... I did try running like a loony past the prime but still got whittled down by the prime... The truck is the way to go...

There is one design fault that I really hate about ME2... You can put your squad members into cover and then scout ahead... when the enemy appear your squadmates APPEAR behind you like they got teleported in. All the tactical setup is a fail and now your guys have to run for cover... and on insanity it usually means at least one of them will get knocked out. Pisses me right off.

I just packed in for the night because on the Garrus Loyalty mission there are 2 Ymir Heavy Mechs giving me grief. I put my guys into cover and trigger the encounter and then Tali and Garrus got killed right away. I then reloaded from the save point and guess what... it started me off at the far end of the warehouse again... even though I had saved just before the bloody Mech encounter because I knew it would be a pain. ME2 has way more glitches than ME1 had. What is with sequels and glitchfests?

Ok, played Garrus' loyalty mission and things are getting a bit easier on Insanity. I'm at least half-prepared for whatever the game is going to throw at me, or so I think at least. I'm thinking about re-organizing my powrs and giving myself Armor Piercing Ammo instead of Incindiary... have you guys used the Armor Piercing before, is it worth it?

I've not tried AP yet...

I found that it became Uber easy after the derelict collector vessel... that level brings your game up so much that you end up finding everything is wimpish in comparison... well at least until you reach the IFF mission I guess.

AP rounds are good against armour and health, but against everything else not so much, if you find yourself going up against collectors go warp ammo, otherwise AP ammo for everything else, really good on IFF.

I found Dominate works well with the collectors... you can really pee off Harbie when he gets shot in the back by his own team. Cheesy

Against the Blue Suns having Tali's AI hack and my dominate meant we hardly had to fire a shot.

I've got Heavy Reave and Miranda's Heavy Warp for Barriers, Heavy Overload with Garrus and Miranda. So barriers and Shields aren't too much of a problem, mainly armor. I could get either ammo type, but figure with that setup Ammo Piercing may be the best bet...

Depends which class you're playing, I find AP rounds on a revant LMG, I managed to take the thresher maw down, though I had knocked a third of it's life away with a cain, and killed it in just over a minute on insanity.

Scions don't last two long once they are alone either, preatorian fight was made easy by it on horizon and going through bloodpack didn't prove too difficult. Revant LMG + AP= pure win against armoured targets.  Applaud

Something I learned the hard way that may just cost me the insanity achievement: Never choose the shotgun if you're playing an adept, and don't attempt the quarian rescue side mission without saving on the ship first.

And man, did I **** up.

The shotgun sucks full stop unless you are a Krogan.

You need to get the Assault Rifle ability and use the Geth AR to truly have a chance with an Adept.

Well after a few weeks I went back to ME2 and finally done it on insanity.

I used soldiers, changing tungsten to heavy warp ammo. Miranda and Zaeed as my squadmates. Died once on the collector ship that time, the rest of the game went smoothly, I managed to survive the reaper ship, Zaeed's Inferno Grenade making short work of husks, Grunt with his shotgun also causes alot of damage.

No deaths on the suicide mission either, I think after completing the collector ship, I died twice in total, once during Samara recruitment mission and once during Legion's loyalty mission.

I've got the Claymore Krogan Shotgun for Shephard and it still sucks on Insanity. I think I'm gonna ccancel this playthrough with my Vanguard and start with an Infiltrator.

I'm trying to get all the achievements for ME1 but man it takes 4 full play throughs (providing you check the achievements first) and more more if you don't to get them all.  Its going to take me 5 and being on the 4th now the game has gotten so boring i cant play for more then 2 missions.  Any way to liven up this game at all after going through it multiple times?

This game would be 100% awesome except for the glitches.

For example I just ground down the final part and the reaper had a sliver of health left and I have 100 shields... AND THE GAME GLITCHES AND I JUST DIE FOR NO ****ING REASON.

Utter, utter bullshit... took ages because of having to deal with Harbinger all the bloody time... if it was just the reaper and the Collectors it wouldn't be so bad... but when you grind for ages without any save point and the game glitch kills you it makes you want to scream.

**** BIOWARE AND **** MASS EFFECT 2...

I just went to go onto the Bioware website and the forums are totally buggered there too... I log in and my avatar appears and then I go to another page and I get logged out... log back in... repeat ad-****ing-infinitum.

I swear to god I am just about had it with this game now. It's not that I've even ranted on that site either... the site is just totally ****ed.

Edit... it's this new IE8... UTTER SHITE! Firefox works fine on the Bioware site... IE8 on the other hand is just making the site unusable.

You need to unselect the option to stay logged in, funny thing is I only find it happens on one computer in our house and it runs on win 7, but that does you IE8, the rest are an older version of IE.

I swear that ME2 is out to send me insane.

I just got the reaper down to a tiny sliver of health, ran out of med kits AND MY DUMBASS TEAMMATES DECIDED TO STAND ON THE BARRIERS AND WOULDN'T GET DOWN.

Of course that meant they died and having no more medkits they stayed dead... and I got swamped by the last wave of Collectors and Harbinger.

This game has more bugs in the AI than a ****ing Roach Motel. If the bloody teammates did as they were ordered the last mission would be fun on Insanity mode... as it is I've just about had it up to here with the bugs ruining my game just when I am about to win.

And before anyone says "It's you an not the game", they should try to play it on Insanity Difficulty... the AI should be court martialed for failure to obey orders. At least in DAO you could switch to the other characters, give multiple orders to alter their behaviours etc... in Mass Effect 2 (just like in 1) you can only tell them to move or attack or use a power (that last is a ME2 new option... wow... I can't believe that... ). Really, they should have adopted the DAO AI command system... would have improved the game a hell of a lot.

Just realised something... Firewalker comes out today... I just hope that it includes bug fixes as well as the DLC. Here's hoping.

What do you mean? You can tell your squad to use their powers in ME1.

I find it is just Miranda who is like that. She likes to stand up whilst being shot at or go into the most useless location, or she goes to the location you tell her to and she sits there doing **** all. I never had this much trouble with other companions. Zaeed and Grunt were excellent on the reaper ship, both did well, and Zaeed was a huge help on the ambush in the collector ship. I think it is somewhat down to luck. That or use Zaeed more, he always does well with me, excellent with his sniper rifle or assualt rifle, and his grenade.

I've had the ENTIRE team do it, not just Miranda. I even had Grunt standing on top of Samara's head the one time.

Then there was the time I lost where Samara had gone as she died... I rezzed her and then she died again... I rezzed her again and finally spotted her... ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE PLATFORM AT THE END MISSION... right where all the bloody Collectors spawn.

Rufus is right... they do go retard in Insanity... I think Insane is what they go... suicidally insane too.

I mean, why is it that when they get on top of the barrier they stop responding... it's obviously a bug but Bioware haven't responded to my bug report. It happens so often that others have got to have experienced it.
