Quote
DICE previously revealed that Battlefield
: Bad Company 2 would receive DLC on the day the game was released. Today they gave actual details on this content.

Two multiplayer maps will be available for download on March 2nd, the day the game is released in North America. One map is for Conquest mode while the other is for Rush matches. A second pack, also containing one Conquest and one Rush map, will be released later in March.

This content is free to download if you have a VIP code. One code is included in every new copy of the game. If you decide to get a pre-owned copy, you'll have to purchase a code for $15 through the in-game store. In other words, it's the same set-up as Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but we get one map pack for free when we buy the game? Then we have to pay for the other?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. However I have heard things that you can use the VIP code to buy the second map pack as well, but that would mean they would need two VIP codes because then with just one, it would have to be reusable, so people could also distribute them.

Actually it sounds like the second pack will be free too if you read it... IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT A NEW COPY OF THE GAME.

It's the same thing that happened with Mass Effect 2. If you buy the game second hand you have to pay £15 for the code to download the apps. Basically it is a way for the developers to recoup some of the second hand gaming market money.

You will only have to enter the VIP code once for it to link to your XBL account. The equivalent in Mass Effect 2 is the "Cerberus Network". I have a feeling that a lot more game developers will be doing this. This means that 2nd hand games will actually cost the users more so either the trade in value will drop or the 2nd hand game prices will drop... or most likely both.

Yet, it says at the bottom..

"*ONE-TIME USE CODE AVAIBLE WITH FULL RETAIL PURCHASE. EXPIRES APRIL 1, 2011".

So at least we only have to enter this once, then I guess when the second map pack comes we just download it? idk

I have to wait for my copy.  Pre-ordered it, but chose the free five to ten day shipping.  Either way, I'll have it by next week hopefully, but sounds cool that they're "giving" a map pack first, rather than us paying extra for it.

Yup... told you as much...

The expiry date seems a bit weird though... trying to force players to buy the game at launch is my guess... that or spend £15 extra after a year... or it's just a big joke from Haggard lol.

I think that could be MS doing in some ways, because I've noticed on quite a few of these offers that it stops after a year, and these have no way to even buy them.

There is an EA Store built into the game.  From that menu, you enter your VIP/unlock codes.  Looks like you can buy all kinds of upgrades for things in the game.  I haven't browsed it much, only to enter my codes for VIP maps and Gamestop weapon unlock (for Engineer class).

All last night I played about 4 matches, then neither me or my friends could connect to anything after that. Damn DICE can't get anything right with these servers. Happened on BF1943, BFBC2 Demo, and now on BFBC2.

Damn... of course... It's EA.... Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect both had free day 1 DLC... but if you buy the titles second hand you have to pay the £15 to access them.

EA cheaping out AGAIN.

This was the chase with no only those games but BC1 demo and the full game. Buy a decent number of servers not the minimum you cheap bastards!

Well I haven't played online yet, but veteran status isn't fully working for me. Checked my page, I've got BC and Heroes, but 1943 and BC2 are not showing up. Any idea how? I want my garand. Other then that, either the first part of the map pack is already in the game, or it's not downloading for me.

Yeah my mates last night said that the veteran status is screwed.

Sounds like EA cheaped out on the servers again. Damn EA. Still need the play the game though.
