Okaaaay, maybe Activision didn't sign their death warrant. They still have Blizzard atop their mountain of gold.

Interesting story. I'm beginning to wonder what will become of IW soon...

I think they are going the route of Naughty Dog.

Having to abandon their franchise for newer and bigger IPs(Jak and Daxter, Uncharted) while a publisher stuck in the past continues to screw up the franchise with shitty sequels.

COD 4 > WAW > MW2

« Reply #5 on: March 03, 2010, 12:47:25 AM »

Looks to me like the IW dudes got fired for actually not wanting to make a shitty game.
And the new devs want to turn COD into an action adventure game, what the ****?
IW will move on to (not neccesarily bigger) better things, while Activision ****s up the COD series by making shitty sequels like Vi said.
Now I think that Activision is to blame for MW2 sucking.

I also read a comment on the story that I think could be the reason for the dispute.
He said that Activision probably wanted to come out with the MW2 DLC this week to keep people from migrating over to BC2, and IW didn't want to release the DLC yet because they knew it wasn't up to their standards, but Activision not wanting to lose players is forcing them to and axing anyone who opposes them.

MW2 story predicted IW downfall?
-No Independent Servers = IW couldn't do anything without Activision's approval.
-Ramirez = IW, they have to jump through hoops to get everything done and all they get to show for it is more orders.
-Shepherd = Kotick, the guy in charge is the bad guy.
-Roach & Ghost = Zampella & West, they just did their job but Kotick still terminated them.
-Price = IW before Activision, they want to rescue their studio and then take Kotick down?

The argument was about bonuses... hold on... IW are having problems with Care Packages in the real world too.

Exactly. Agreed with everything you guys have said. I have a feeling that once again West and Zampella will go make a new studio migrating other IW employees, they will put quality into making a new game, bring it up with maybe a company like Ubisoft, and start a whole new franchise.

I honestly feel like Activision is the one that has caused the past two CoD's to be a fail. Treyarch pretty much had their game planned out and everything, then Activision comes in and tells them that they must have the CoD4 multiplayer engine.

Activision probably were the ones that said no to the Beta opinion for MW2 because they wanted the hype to stay there, and they didn't want people loosing hype if they didn't like the beta. Also, they probably wanted to keep everything a surprise, like killstreaks and stuff.

I still think  the lack of public beta was because IW knew they wouldn't get as many people buying the title on day 1 when they found how buggy it is. I mean, look how many out of map glitches were found IN THE FIRST WEEK. Elevators and shit.... it's what killed the game for me. Well, that and the fact that the lag just pissed me off no end.

I think that they have over-milked COD... like they over milked Guitar Hero. I'm still waiting for Guitar Hero Barbie Beach Vollyball to get released.

Also, what is going to happen when you do a COD action adventure... can we say... SPLINTER CELL.

Personally I think they are starting to panic a bit because...

  • 1. MW2 had bad press and...

  • 2. Medal of Honor is on the way back.

I'm going against the flow here but I think it was probably IW trying it on as the "WE ARE MODERN WARFARE GODS... BOW DOWN BEFORE US - GIVE US OUR BONUSES BECAUSE OUR TITLE IS AWESOME!" and Activision goes "Oh yeah.... let us introduce you to our bouncers".

Actually we can speculate till the cows come home... The only peeps who know are the IW bosses and Bobby boy and friends. The court case is gonna be interesting, that's for sure!

IW Trying to get into their offices -> Head Banger!

Whilst activision are pretty much evil incarnate, although they are still doing battle with EA for this title, I am not sure we can pass the blame onto them for MW2's demise.

It is more likely a mix of the two. Developer getting stuckup their own are and trying to do to much whilst the publisher pushs deadlines to get it out as faast as possible so they can make their money and run. Especially if the argument was about bonuses, they want huge bonuses and activision flicked them the V's.

Maybe if IW caves in some of the staff will go back to the Medal of Honor team, thats where they came from originally they are off returning to their roots.

I dont know about activision but i know IW sucks ass... they had their heads stuck so far up their arses from past successes that they thought that they didnt need to listen to the community. dug their own grave if you ask me. too pretty, no substance.

It's probably got a lot to do with both sides. Seems like they are both a little full of themselves. And their MONEY!
