This was something I realised a long time ago but Bad Company 2 has rubbed salt into the wound.

This is the thing... on launch day everyone is on a level playing field. Everyone has the same weapons and gadgets. After a few days though you have a core group of gamers who have progressed faster... Now they have better weapons than the rest of the players and can beat them easier... so now these players can progress faster while the rest of the gamers are slowed down. So the ones with the better weapons get even BETTER weapons faster now.

As time goes on it leaves the casual gamer totally outgunned... and then the casual gamer turns around and announces that the game is crap... because for him it is.

This is why having better powered guns at the higher ranks is way wrong imho... especially if the game can mix level 1 players in the same game as level 50 players.

Bad Company 2 for example... I was just in a game where there were level 30 players in the same game as level 2 players. The level 2 player was so outclassed it was silly. Hell, I was level 12 an even I had major problems with VSS and Type 88 snipers and M60 medics ruining my game. I couldn't even SEE the damned enemy before I was respawning half the time... and what was worse I was sniped before I had been ingame more than a second.

So yeah, I really think that gaming devs really need to think of a new way of balancing out game design because farming noobs is just no fun for the noobs in question.

True, though besides the weapons you mentioned, I don't think there are any huge advantages to having certian weapons. All the specializations seemed balanced, magnum ammo isn't as dominate as stopping power was in CoD, or Ceramic Armour like jugganaut, they give you an advantage, but not a huge one.

I can't hit the side of the barn with a sniper rifle on BC2 anyway, which is kinda odd, I was decent enough in BC1 and 1943. But because of that sniper rifles don't bother me when it comes to it.

Though R6V2 had a good thing going with allowing you to unlock weapons by playing the SP or the MP.

I wonder if some of the "OMFGIKNOWISHOULDHAVEKILLEDHIM" shots I have done are due to Ceramic Armour...

I don't know about anyone else but there is something really screwy with Bad Company 2 at time... I mean REALLY screwy. I even proved it by going into a room and hiding and STILL got sniped... now on normal mode I would think "Yup, must have got tagged" but I play Hardcore because bullets are not made out of NERF foam. In hardcore you get tagged but there are no orange arrows above your head... so how the hell did I get sniped.

But the big wierdness factor is that sometimes you play a round and your bullets are just useless... It's this that makes me think that there are sync issues (where the enemy soldiers are not where they are shown to be). I've heard several friends now say exactly the same thing before leaving the game, Guyyug, including your friend Andy, Jace and me.

I like Bad Company 2 when the wierdness factor isn't happening... Unfortunately if the game is like anything like it was this morning then you can shove this game... crap teammates, crapper teammate and poor bullet reg (I even hit this one guy in the face with an AT4 and then he killed me... his health level was still at 100%).

The WAYYYYYYYY too slow reload time is also a factor that I hate. Bullet drop on sniper rifles (firing supersonic ammo) yet no bullet drop on SMG's (firing subsonic ammo) is another total ballsup in Bad Company 2. Whoever did the design for the multiplayer really dropped the ball here.

But back to generalities... most FPS games give better weapons to better gameplayers which mean that the crap players get even worse as time goes on. The weapon list should be mixed, not graded in levels of awesomeness. The best weapon should be awarded about 1/3 of the way through the levels I would have thought while weapons that aren't so good (yet if you use these weapons and still pwn, it shows you are a good player) should be awarded at the end... It's one area where I actually think IW got it right with giving the M16 right at the beginning of multiplay... along with Juggernaut. It gives the weaker player a chance.

What should be done as the weak player gets better is take off the training wheels and remove assists like Juggernaut and Ceramic armour and not let the l33t gamers even MORE buffs to let them pwn the noobs.
