Well FIFA stands for Football Is Frackin AWFUL in my book. If a ball goes over the line and it's no whistle goes off then it's a goal... that is, unless it's England and the goal isn't given for some reason. The ball was 2ft over the line AND IT WASN'T GIVEN... If they had technology it would have proved it was a goal. I bet it really demoralised the England team when that goal was disallowed for no apparent reason.

The problem is that FIFA are behind the times... WAY behind the times... Bunch of wankers imho.  Angry

The NBA and MLB both use instant replay in-game to make the correct call if it was a big call or the game was very close and they weren't sure what the call should be. All sports should require this as mandatory because when the call is blatantly the opposite of what happened (and especially when they can show the fans in the stadium in real-time the replay), there's no excuse for screwing over one team's hard work defensively or offensively.

They disallowed this goal because the goalkeeper was obviously under a German anti-grav ray....

In the NBA playoffs, the refs pretty much let the teams play. They know emotions are running high and the rivalries are ready to explode but they do step in when intentional fouls start happening. They also consult the video replay in the final two minutes of the first and second half or when they need to make sure about a hard foul not being a flagrant. It's pretty seamless because you get to see the replay several times and hear the commentators' take on what happened while the refs are working it out. During the regular season, they'll call chippy fouls right away but during the playoffs nobody wants their home team to be in foul trouble over calls that could have gone either way.

Also, in the case of flagrant and technical fouls, the NBA reviews it after the game. They either rescind it or let it stand.

same with the NRL. generally massive punch ups or spear tackles go on report, they get watched after the game and the player at fault has to front a tribunal to plead his case (in person or video link), they then decide suspension or warning or what ever.
this is all done with in three days of the event.

The ref in the German - Argentina game was excellent. He tried to calm the Argies down when they were going bonkers because Maradonna was pushing them too hard.

Oh I sooooooo enjoyed that game... I was rooting for the Germans and they obliterated the Argentinians... Best game of the series I thought.
