Too heavyhanded a punishment, in my opinion. Anything more than a few hours will result in a pretty big backlash. I will not touch this game now.
What is up with game companies nowadays?
a) Ubisoft implements draconian DRM
b) Blizzard wanted to force people to use real names when posting. That went to hell.
c) Codemasters wants to cleave their game into 1/3 pieces and sell the rest as DLC (EA/Bioware are already on that boat)
d) Now Bungie wants to ban quitters.

This is bullshit.
What if my connection sucks and I disconnect?
What if I have to get off in the middle of a game?
What if the other team is raping us and it stops being fun for me?
I think I should have the right to quit a game with little or no penalty.
Bungie wants the game to keep the game fun for others by not having people quit, but if the game I'm in isn't fun for me, then I should be allowed to quit.
I might have to consider not getting this game now.

You can't go one (or if you're really, really, really lucky two) public Versus games of Left 4 Dead 2 without running into rage quitters. Once they think they can't win, the entire team typically just leaves and the server shuts down because you need at least one person on each side. I counted 22 ragers in a single game (people kept joining and quitting once they realized their team was losing) and if they had stuck around that could have easily made it a competitive game. It's pathetic and its the rampant theory in the community that if you're losing, you just quit because there are no consequences. Well, for Halo: Reach, there are consequences but there are also extenuating circumstances that are impossible to explain through the limited abilities of XBL. The problem, though, is that Bungie will cave and not ban players, meaning games will continue to be ruined left and right and into the future.
Actually, I've had three or four games with that number of quitters. They care more about winning and being on the team that is winning than playing the game. I stick it out regardless of winning or losing because there is always something to learn. I've only quit once, when the other team was blatantly using server-side cheats to win. I stayed to the finale, played as the Special Infected, then told them to have a nice day not finishing their game because when I left the server shut down.
I'm ****ing sick of the mentality of "I bought the game, if it's not fun I have the right to quit." What did people do back in the days of NES, SNES, and Genesis when a game was challenging to the point of almost impossible, and also completely not fun in certain points? They kept playing. Today, people are much more likely to just give up and expect their games to be as easy as possible because they're too damn lazy to actually try anymore. If they can't have their instant gratification, they'll just quit and move on to something that babies them and makes them think they're actually a good player.

I agree with everything that Eronios said, but this is why I dont like it.
This gives so much more power to team killing in hardcore modes. The only reason I EVER leave a game is because I am getting team killed. I dont want to be punished for that very reason. This disheartens me.

I have to admit to rage quitting when my meds are sending me bonkers... I get really, REALLY worked up. Luckily the doc changed my meds recently so I am not raging or ranting as much. Last rant was tonight though when I got pissed off with Frontierville and its stupid annoying popups...
I probably won't rage quit in Reach though....
... not unless it has bloody annoying popups, that is!
