I called it... lol

Quote
Britain's Defence Secretary Liam Fox has defended his comments calling on retailers to ban the forthcoming Medal of Honor video game from their stores.

On Sunday, Mr Fox said he was "disgusted" by the game, which allows players to adopt the role of the Taliban in the Afghan war.

The game's publishers Electronic Arts said the minister had portrayed parts of the game inaccurately.

The government said Dr Fox was expressing a "personal view".

A spokesperson for Dr Fox said he "stood by" his comments.

"The point remains that part of this game allows you to play the part of the Taliban attacking ISAF troops in the area of central Helmand where British troops are operating."

On Sunday, Dr Fox said that it was "shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban against British soldiers".

"At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands," he said.

"It's hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product."

An Electronic Arts spokesman said the game "does not allow players to kill British soldiers".

"No British troops feature in the game," he said.

He's a typical politician or reporter that hears a rumour and then attacks it without even checking for validity. Like the EA guy said, these are AMERICAN special forces fighting the Taliban... No British in it... DOH!

I'm going to rent before I buy I think... Not buying it because of this guy... just worried about the quality.

Wow, this guy is a complete dunce. He's actually comparing real tragedy to a video game and saying the video game emulates the tragedy.

Oh, wait, he's in the Conservative party. No wonder he's an idiot who attacks without knowing what he's talking about.

^^^ ANOTHER dunce who knows nothing (not you Kronic, I mean the BC guy)....

"EA also points out that no Canadian soldiers are depicted in the game, and that it carries a "mature" rating."

It's weird, but where are all the Americans screaming to ban the game? After all, it is AMERICANS getting shot by the Taliban in the game...

I just knew this would happen... I just wonder if this bad press is being done by the despicable Agents of Activision (hey, that sounds cool lol) in an attempt to scupper the game...

It's just media fodder.

More crap they want to try and get on the air to get views.

More Mass Effect type of crap but with a diff country and slightly diff subject.
(as a reminder if you forgot what I'm talking about)
I believe it was CNN and some famous author who spoke about the game vs the former(?) host of a spike channel video game show(forgot name).

It was about the "lewd" alien sex scene in the game. No one actually played it, or saw the scenes. The spiketv host was getting attacked because he apparently has no morals or some shit despite him repeating constantly that the scene itself was "tasteful" and honestly did not show anything. There are far worse games out there.

THEN there was a huge backlash against the author (due to her specifically being a dike about it.) Her books on amazon etc etc, were being bashed repetitively and in full force by hundreds in their reviews, destroying her book's rating etc.
She then decided to watch the scene from a relative playing I believe, releasing an apology to the community and I believe the host. She even stated that "the scene was really nothing at all".

Banned in the US now...

Military bans sale of violent video game
 Email this Story

Sep 8, 3:27 PM (ET)

By ANNE FLAHERTY

WASHINGTON (AP) - Military bases across the U.S. have banned the sale of a new video game that lets a player pretend to be a Taliban fighter and "shoot" U.S. troops.

"Medal of Honor" by Electronic Arts, a major game developer based in Redwood City, Ca., hits stores Oct. 12.

But after public protests, including one by British Defense Secretary Liam Fox, U.S. military officials decided not to stock the game in any of the nearly 300 service exchange shops on bases across the country.

Gamers are scoffing at the decision, saying that advanced technology has made it commonplace in the gaming world to let a player switch sides and play the bad guy.

Dunno how to give a damn.

You think that's bad, Jack Thompson's trying to keep the game off American shelves altogether.

Shame about the ban of the game in those service outlets. Not a problem; that's why care packages are made, unless package carriers open them and take the good things (which I'm sure is commonplace).

I bet in WWII if gaming was available they would ban games like COD1 and 2.

But think about it... WHAT THE FRACK ABOUT IRAQ????

Seriously... all the games the portrayed the Iraq soldiers and let you play as them... none of them were moaned about. It's just utter bullshit imho. If an American soldier wants to blow off steam he can shoot Taliban in single player.

You know what would be awesome... the Taliban screaming for the game to be banned as it shows American Soldiers shooting Taliban soldiers.  Roll Eyes

If you ban one wargame you have to ban them all as every one has the same argument... I still think that Activision is helping the bad press on MoH as Modern Warfare is just as bad and nobody is screaming for that to be banned... mind you, MW2 is such a joke that it is more a comedy show than a wargame. Excuse me now while I put on my bullet proof banana leaves. Wink

I kinda understand the decision for military bases.

IMO it's just to avoid a conflict like in the british papers had.
People will whine about it, but the fact is that there won't be soldier families/vets who MIGHT get offended due to lack of understanding that will start yelling in their ears.
Protests, campaigns, etc etc etc.

Soldiers can get it off base, which usually really isn't that far, play it on base, or even have it sent to them. In reality, there isn't much issue. They are just relieving any responsibility of the games being on base so no one will yell at them and hold them accountable for such "insensitivity". The whole ban has lost attention, and the only thing with an aftertaste is the british news bullshit.

But if they ban MoH they should ban Black Ops and the rest of the COD range as well... Banning one is just a bullcrap journalism stunt.... Just look at the airport part of MW2... that is LOADS worse than MoH.

It's only due to being able to play as a taliban soldier during MP.

Avoid any undereducated folks from being upset about it since it's going on recently. People who are currently fighting against them, died from them, knows someone who died, get shot, related to, etc etc etc. It's a more current issue unlike other war vets who are less likely and at much lower numbers going to be on base/give a damn.
