Don't Blink!

« on: January 02, 2011, 11:25:13 PM »

I got a new laptop just before Christmas and unfortunately last night in my drunken haze of new years partying i broken the panel on it, i still have my old laptop which has the same sized screen and am curious if i could just swap the screen from it into my new laptop?

Old laptop is an ACER Aspire 5720Z with a 15.4" screen (which has already had the screen replaced once)
New laptop is a Samsung SF510-S01 with 15.4" screen

It would have to be the exact same model as connectors on laptops vary greatly.

Do you have accidental damage insurance on your place... if so then you could get it replaced. One thing I always insist on is accidental damage on my insurance clause as I am a clumsy sod.

I'll just take both laptops in to Future Shop where i bought them and see what they say, if anything i'll just pay for a new panel since i'm the one that got so drunk i ended up in a coma for 27hrs and broke it.

Holy Crap... How much did you DRINK?

 Shocked

Oh and this is why laptops suck... repairs are not straight forward... plus upgrading sucks.

I drank 40oz's of Jagermiester and Gin combined in about 5 1/2-6hrs, that after not drinking for 6 months.  Looked it up on wikipedia and it takes a blood-alcohol count of .35% to .50% to induce a coma like that, surprisingly enough i'm still alive lol.

Only reason i prefer laptops is cause of their portability and i've never even considered upgrading them.

Previous Laptop - > busted shield replaced
Current Laptop - > busted shield, needing replacement

That's a type of upgrading. Now if you got a normal PC and maybe used a nettop for portability it would end up cheaper maybe? Plus normal PC's are better performers for less money.

For my portability I use an Acer Revo (well, 2 of them actually). Dual core and can run some games even. Watch 1080P video on them as well. And you can carry the main box with a finger and thumb it is so light.
