So this comes out in just less than a month. Now it has the SMART technology which sounds and looks pretty good but do you think it will actually work?

I have the hope that it will work but if it does we need this game to take off and not die after a month due to a lack of players, so what they really need to do is release a pretty amazing demo.

Well it comes out next week. I changed my pre-order as it was for the standard edition and I changed it to the special edition which cost a few pounds more but you get some extra stuff.

Ooops, I suppose I better get XBL again too.

Got Brink this morning.

It's by no stretch of the word a "bad" game. Actually, it's very enjoyable for what it is. But it is overpriced. There are only 8 maps, the campaign is basically  just running through them and there aren't that many options as far as the classes go.

Easily the best aspect of the game is the objective system. Basically, there are a variety of things you can do to either help win the game or assist your team in winning the game. And each class gets a different set of objectives. Soldiers blow stuff up, Engineers repair and disarm, Medics revive teammates and Operatives hack.

I was surprised at the lack of depth in each class compared to...say..Team Fortress 2. But it's fun to play regardless. The guns have a lot of customization and it's just a lot of fun.

But at 50 dollars? No chance. If you had no problem paying full price for a game like Shadowrun(The most recent one) then you'll get your fill here. But I've come to expect much more from full priced games lately.

If you can, rent it. But there wasn't a PC version I could rent so I went on and bought it.

On a side note, if you have an ATI graphics card, there are performance optimization issues. Download the Catalyst 11.5a hotfix to rectify this.

From what I'm reading over at the Steam forums, this game seems like a mixed can of nuts. Some call it a demo people are paying for, others call it awesome. Me - my money's going to another studio.

I wouldn't call it a demo. But it really should have been budget priced. It would have sat perfectly at 15 dollars.

Shit... mine got posted today. I really had big hopes for this game.

Looks like another one that got hyped too much and the devs couldn't deliver. I hope to god that Battlefield 3 doesn't suck.

I should have proofread my own post. I really meant to say "paid beta", as is the current condition of the title. It was probably rushed out the door to appease shareholders. That, and people with ATI/AMD cards consider this game unplayable until the issue is fixed.

Yeah, it didn't start out bad but it got unplayable as time went on.

Agree, it feels like a budget title.
It's a good game, but not worth 60 bucks. Currently feels like it could have been packed with another game. Tf2 felt more standalone than this.

The smart tech is also pretty useful, but not as amazing as i thought.. But it's pretty cool to find shortcuts.

Oh and about the gun customization, it just looks pretty. You realize that the add-ons are all the same really. If anything, a lot like COD but in a nicer screen. Same with the character customization.. I expected a lot more, i mean preset faces? It just starts to remind me of Army of Two.

Gameplay wise, it can be pretty fun. It's just that.. while playing it doesn't feel how I want it to feel. Iono, maybe give it some time and online players will evolve.

Try playing Section 8... Very similar in having the sub games but it is LOADS better than this. At least you could aim the bloody guns. Aiming system is awful. COD is loads better. Section 8 used the multiplayer maps for single player with bots but the bots were loads better.

Also the weaponry seems VERY weak...

I'm going back to playing Crysis 2. Now THAT is awesome in comparison followed by Black Ops. Single player at least. Bad Company 2 is top Multiplayer. Those are the kings in my book atm.

The super dooper SMART system is actually in Crysis 2... and they didn't even mention it. I think that SMART is actually a distraction that says "HEY, LOOK AT THIS AND IGNORE THAT YOU CAN'T AIM IN THIS GAME" heh.

Like SNE says... TF2 was better than this... Kind of sad really because this could have been an awesome game... I expected a better single player too.

I give it a C+

If anyone ever tells you that PC gaming is better than console gaming in every way, promptly tell them that they're full of shit.

Brink simply doesn't work anymore. The only option left is just to wait for a patch since it automatically corrects any modifications you have whenever you try to boot the game up. So that cuts off any access to third party fixes.

Obviously the game wasn't finished and the suits just wanted some money for the development...

Firstly, whenever you refer to me as SNE i feel special. It's probably because of the SNES reference so it makes it seem like an interesting nickname LOL.

Anyways, once you find one of the submachine guns(forget which), you can pretty much rape.
I stumbled on using it by accident when i put it as my secondary. Anyways, it has medium/low damage and fast ROF. Slapped a drumb barrel on there and boom. Kills for ME!

Snipings a pain. Not fun. Wanted more COD4 not Black ops type of damage. I mean, I have it hard enough.

Also, looking back I kidna wish I could choose (at least like 3) characters to bring into battle with me of diff builds. I mean, i understand im trying to increase pts to build a character of certain build/looks/etc. But gdn it. I usually would want to switch from being walking tank to being a speedy little bastard, for diff missions.

I mean, i would have to change my class to help move things along times, and with that I need a diff build. Sometimes I'm the tank medic who helps clear a way while reviving, buffing, AND killing. Other days I just need to run in from spawn to revive everyone who got ahead, or run into and out of battle! I end up doing a giant run of boosts to the soldiers in front, and the spy whatever named guys so they survive while hacking etc etc.

In all, this game has a lot of good ideas that need to be pushed into other games. To me, this game came out years too late. It would have been enjoyed more in the past.

In other news.. APB:reloaded beta is up on pc and is FREE. When it goes online it's going to be free to play instead of the monthly crap.

I found out the secret of playing Brink and enjoying it... Do all the challenges BEFORE you start playing the game. It buffs you up and gives you all the weaponry.

Still, it's a weird game control wise. Seems laggy even offline. You have to learn how to shoot again. Once you get into the knack of the game it improves a lot. The bots are bloody stupid though. Why can't game designers make a rule that if the bot stops in the way of friendly fire it dives out of the way instead of just standing there blocking your shots. It's not just in Brink but many, many other FPS and TPS games too.

At the moment my favourite FPS has to be Red River. I don't know why I was a bit pessimistic about the title considering how much I loved Dragon Rising but once you get into the swing of things it's awesome. I'm just one level from maxing out my rifleman and then I have to do the AutoRifleman, Scout and Grenadier.

Only thing I am disappointed in is they dumbed it down from DR which they didn't need to do.
