The first group. The other pairs were finalists, but they lost. Though I can see how you can get confused with the way it was typed up; it took me nearly 30 seconds to fully understand the sentences.

The second sentence should say "The pairs who narrowly lost out were finalists Actress Kirstie Alley and dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Disney actress Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas."

Slight change but fixes it completely.
