Not here to make a big thread, but just to alert you all that the BF3 Beta comes out for PC, Xbox, and PS3 on September 29th, while if you own a HomeFront disc, you will be able to play the beta September 27th.. The beta will only last until October 10th.. So make sure you get some playing time.. Beta will be open to public to download off PSN or XBL.. Umm what else.. Map will be Rush on Operation Metro.. Was suppose to be Conquest on Caspian Border but they added new stuff to Metro or something.. Not sure.. Have fun!

Given that COD has been going downhill with each game lately and i've never really liked the gameplay in Battlefield i'm having a hard time choosing which game to pickup when they come out.  Battlefield seems to be what i'm leaning towards cause of the vehicle and sh!t but the spec ops in MW3 looks like its gonna be crazy, what to choose...

Played the beta and I just cant get to like the battlefield style of gameplay, have never liked it with each one of their games.  It's just not as good as Call of Duty even with how sh!tty the last couple CODs were.

Here's my take on the beta:

Beta synopsis
Basically, the map is Metro, a badly beaten-up train station. The game is Rush. By now you're fully aware of what Rush is, so I won't go into that. 32 players max. There used to be Caspian Border servers (64 players + a ton of vehicles and lots of land), but Dice recently took those down because... well, I don't know, but that was a jerkish move, that's for certain.

Movement + combat
Definitely not as smooth as any Call of Duty game I've played so far, but then again Dice were aiming for pseudo-realism, which they have captured pretty well. Going prone is very much necessary due to the amount of lead that flies out of peoples' guns, and even then it isn't much help against a determined sniper, unless you're behind a wall. Hopping over things does add to the immersion a bit if you're not paying attention, but if you are then you may begin wondering if flinging the legs over just to clear a railing or a ledge is a good idea. onto combat: the aiming feels far looser than its Bad Company counterparts, but that may have something to do with my mouse's sensitivity (3600 DPI). Weapon recoil is relatively easy to control if you're either in prone (or on a wall) with the bipod deployed or with a foregrip on your assault rifle. Otherwise recoil is gonna be a real annoyance. I really like deploying my scoped SAW on a wall and suppressing or killing as much as possible, and this does piss off a good amount of people. It reminds me of the days I spent playing CoD: WaW before Treyarch decided to do away with bipod usefulness. Each individual weapon has its own bits and pieces to unlock, unlike in the BC games which unlocking one weapon mod meant unlocking it for the entire class. You just might have to play favorites to unlock everything for one particular weapon.

Controls
It's a mess, plain and simple. I hate them. Allow me to explain why: currently, the only way to reconfigure the button layout is if you're in a game and alive, so if you get shot while in the menu, the game kicks you out of the menu and you have to wait and be redeployed in order to do anything. Lots of people have complained about this in the Battlelog forums, the very one that Dice is apparently aggressively ignoring. Mapping functions to your mouse is difficult, as Dice have set up a very rigid control method that absolutely needs to be changed. I mean, how do they expect people to test out the beta if they can't comfortably play it? I wanna reconfigure my buttons so that they emulate my version of BC2's. I gotta press F to knife someone instead of the scroll wheel.

Battlelog
Dear god, is this thing messy, and that's a compliment. The less said about it, the better. If you wanna check it out, go right ahead (assuming you have a PC capable of comfortably running this game).

Conclusion
This game feels more like an alpha phase game, with all the game-breakingly annoying bugs abound that will not be fixed until the game is on shelves. Once it does get released, I recommend waiting a month or so that Dice can fix their game up enough to be playable.

I am honestly enjoying it, a bit annoying that it seems to split up friends after they form a squad. I think there is a bit of problem with damage detection, specially with the shotgun, but nothing that has stopped me on going on a spree with it. And I really like fighting in the metro.

mmm.. most anticipated game for me was ruined by the beta.. which sucks lol.. not only the glitches but just the gameplay itself... this is going to be just a paragraph of rants and whatever comes to my head..

to start off, this doesnt feel like battlefield at all to me, its a huge step into the gun on gun cod style gameplay for a good amount of it, but that might change when vehicles come out.. the heads up display HUD is so bad.. half the time i have team mates shooting at me because they cant tell if im an enemy or not because theres just a little blue dot on the screen and the full name doesnt come until ur aimed in on them for a second.. the needs of a teammate are so confusing, because if your a medic, the hud will show you who needs health AND whos a medic.. then, if you need ammo and you go to an ammo guy, as far as i know, theres no way to notify him you need ammo.. in bfbc2 u pressed back button over his name and a guy called out that he needed ammo.  the points notifyer is so messed up, half your screen is constantly getting raped by notifications for just little points like someone spawning on you. then theres to spots they can come up.. i hate how the screen just gets blurry when you get shot, it gets really confusing that way.. should have been blood.. i liked MW2's jelly screen.. it made it so u lost sight but weren't impared.. because once your impared in this game you cant ingage at all with the enemy because you cant even see him. another thing is spotting for hud.. no one uses it and i cant blame them.. you can only spot like twice in 10 seconds, and if you miss the little invincible spotting box around everyone, you cant spot anymore.. not to mention that spots only last like 7 seconds as well.. now what about the realism.. even when a machine gun doesnt have a bipod it's almost lazer accurate.. i mean come on the AK47M has more recoil then the M249 does standing up.. which realisticly you cant even fully shoot an M249 standing up.. i do understand that they had to balance out Assault and Ammo classes, but they should have found another way.. i was amazed to find out that they fixed nothing about defenders camping the attackers spawn area.. i was thinking after a minute it would make attackers spawn a non playable zone for defenders.. i guess not. :/.. and speaking of the spawns.. on operation metro the last spawn area for defenders must be a joke.. you spawn on that sidewalk above the street where B is, and there's almost no cover.. for attackers you just have to sit in the buildings and watch people spawn.. also on operation metro, there's only 3 ways  into the subway.. all you need is 2 people on defenders watching each way in and your set.. though theres so many spawns for attackers, its crazy.. ive probably played 10 FULL matches, and only ONCE have I won as a defender.. i was happy when they said BF3 would run at 32FPS, but man this game feels like it's running at almost 60FPS.. i never had the best eye for spotting people on the map in BFBC2, but in this game i can't see anyone at all. they all blend right into the map and it's very frustrating.. people that are in prone look like dead bodies, and its just so hard to spot them.. another this is the reaction time in this game is just like CoD pubs.. none.. one time me and this guy both moved out of cover(he moved a TINY bit before me out of cover), standing up, me zoomed down the sight with my M9, while he wasnt with his AK47.. about 20 feet away, and he kills me.. i have good reactions and i couldn't even get a shot off.. i dont rage quit anymore because i dont like to feed that monster, but i really wanted to lol.. im not a player looking to be 33-4 every round or whatever.. i'm looking to be in the top 5 with maybe 20-11 or some score like that.. speaking of that.. theres limited objective playing in this game mode.. theres basically not much of a reward or disarming or arming an objective.. i like to play for the team, but for most people it's.. "why would i waste my time getting maybe 300 points(2 kills and arm objective) when i could go get 600 points(6 kills by killing players at enemy spawn)".. attackers objective is to destroy mcom stations.. while defending is to protect them and eliminate enemies.. then the glitches.. theres just so many i dont even want to talk about it.. i could go on for awhile but i feel like stopping... this game comes out in 23 days and like someone said above, this feels more like an alpha then a beta.. i honestly think BF3 lost alot of sales because of this crappy beta.. and because they rushed the release to keep up with MW3 they are going to lose sales aswell because of an unfinished product.. and the whole "unfinished product" thing is more of a call of duty thing.....

Yike Yeehz... That sounds bad. I can't test the beta because I don't have live and my PC's are setup for my flight simulator at the moment.

The closed alpha wasn't that bad imho.  Remember you are not playing final code. I remember playing the beta of Eve Online and everyone was screaming "THIS GAME IS NOWHERE NEAR READY" and the day the game came out it was like a whole different game... they plugged all the bugs at once.

Then again a few days later the whole thing came crashing down and the makers had to do a rollback... so maybe not the best example... in fact forget all about it... gone... rolled back.  Cry

I'm still looking forward to the single player. I wonder if the Bad Company crew will have a walk on part? Would be great if they do.

I know it's not the final code, but like I said, I think.. this feels more like an Alpha then a Beta.. and with all these glitches and poor gameplay errors, and with 20 days or so to fix them.. Hope is slim..

People say it's just Metro, and once you play a different map you'll love the game.. so who knows..

Metro sucks... gotta say that. You need the torch attachment or some other way of seeing in the dark. I tended to get ganked by some git camping in the dark.
