"Is noise pollution bad for the economy?"

MW3
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:45:49 PM »

well 8.5 hrs ago i reluctantly picked up my copy of a game i wasnt expecting much from...so far ive only played up to wave 11 in survival, which i did quite easily by my self and found it quite boring. could be ok with mates but meh....i jumped on the campaign for a couple of  hours and wow!...im loving it! with the turtle beach x41's the sound quality is amazing and with bits like:
having a gun fight in a jewelry store and shooting ppl in zero gravity as a plane crashes
just got me more exited for what would happen next. im not big on fps campaigns, feels like its all been done before. sofar this has been a 0-100km/h ride that i didnt want to get off (mind you im only 2hrs in)....

im guessing multiplayer is where im going to be disappointed with this one...

I was just about to put "Still waiting" but my copy just dropped through the letterbox. Just installing it to the hard drive now.

I was looking at the video of the social aspects. Makes the Battlefield Battlelog look MEH! to be honest. Looks more like Halo now.

I doubt I will sign up for ELITE though... I'm just not that much of a fanboy. At least now we will have less idiots playing BF3.

Well MW3 campaign may be good but multiplayer is still run and gun gayness. BF3 multiplayer is still 100x better.

the campaign was awesome! but i finished it in 5.5hrs on regular and that was taking it easy- so way too short... multiplayer is like a different skin, different maps etc but just more of the same. its like a map pack for mw2, im not done with it yet and i dont regret my purchase yet.....in fact, im quite happy:)

You should rent BF3 and have a blast at multiplayer. It's freakin awesome dude. Took a bit to get used to it again but afterwards it was great when you had teams doing bounding overwatch like some guys I played with. Made Metro into my favourite map from my least favourite.

I only wish they had made a colour blind version. That is one thing that IW got right.

Let's just say I never quick-scoped at all, as a matter a fact I was awful at it, and I try it in one game of MW3 and I go 39-8.. OVERPOWERED!! It's just too damn easy.

This game honestly just looks like shit.. really doesn't look better then MW2 at all, and the menus and everything just look awful as well. I mean it's a lot fun and that's what really matters but the whole thing is just a cluttered mess. They went up in a lot of categories and they also went down in a lot of catogories.

I still have yet to try campaign or any Spec Ops, so we will see what happens there.. Crossing my fingers!!

And Elite sucks, a really bad $50 purchase on my part as of right now.. It also looks awful, it's not even intergrated in the game, like Halo WayPoint.. Though I haven't tried much such as the clan crap so we will see where that takes us. I really hope Elite gets features such as personal weapons and shit, who knows. I'll look at it more tomorrow.. Even more crossing fingers!!

And BTW for MP I am really just using the same guns and stuff, I'm not paying attention to everything because I'm just overloaded with stuff.. Then GroundWar was already bad enough, and now they add Kill Confirmed into it just makes it a nightmare. Also they ruined Barebones by adding Kill Confirmed.

Yeah... that is one thing I freaking HATE about COD. No way to turn it off either which is why I will not be playing MW3 multiplayer and sticking with BF3. Even when I do crap at BF3 I enjoy myself. COD is all about run and gun and camping... No tactics used whatsoever.

COD 4 > WAW > MW2

« Reply #9 on: November 10, 2011, 04:18:33 AM »

So is this game shitty or what? I haven't bought it yet, nor do I plan to any time soon, but everyone at school is drooling over it. I understand that all of the bandwagoners think MW3 is the greatest game ever, but I'm really burnt out on COD and even my friends who've been playing since COD 4 like it. It's probably because they're in the honeymoon phase and they haven't discovered all of its flaws yet, but I'm still really tempted to buy this. From what I can tell, it's just MW2.5. It's not an ugly game, but it doesn't look nearly as beautiful as MW2 did, and basically the only changes are maps, guns, and a bunch of unnecessary shit that just overcomplicates things. It doesn't even feel like COD anymore; more like a Blops/MW2/Battlefield ugly duckling love child. Can I get some of your guys' opinions?

The single player campaign is pretty much the second chapter to MW2, its not all that hard either i beat it on veteran in 9 hours and thats with ALOT of wasted time just walking around and looking for intel and just sight seeing lol.  Multiplayer is like a combination of MW2 guns/killstreaks/perks and Black Ops style maps, can't say that i hate it yet but it's not looking to good (glad i kept MW2).  Just getting into spec ops and only tried one round of survival so far so cant really comment on them yet.

If you are into single run n gunning then get MW3. If you are into teamplay combat get BF3. It's as simple as that.

MW3 is all about kills... BF3 is about helping your team.

I Disagree Neo

I base the separation of the games more or less on the cod maps vs. bf maps and cod perks vs. bf vehicles/attachments.

When looked at in these spectrum's the differences are very very apparent. When looked at on the gameplay spectrum, cod gameplay vs. bf gameplay, the argument has a lot of gray area.

Vehicles/Attachments vs. Perks/Killstreaks

~~For BF this is basically the equivalent to the perks and killstreaks for COD, except pertaining more to the realism side. The vehicles are all balanced per side and each team is given an equal number of each. The team who uses the vehicles the best usually is the winner of the game, much like COD, where the team who uses the perks/killstreaks the best generally wins the game. In COD, the killstreaks are the same for either team, nationality not a factor like BF3. Because of this, every1 has an equal advantage (not using Rank as a factor) of choosing the "uber" perk or killstreak to help his team win.

COD Maps vs. BF Maps
~~COD Maps are expertly designed to allow for fast movement. BF Maps are designed for player placement, aka being in the best spot at given moments. Ill explain: COD Maps are usually tightly woven with many corners. Often times centered in a small town, a city block, a building floor, or in a designated quarantined open area; these style of maps allow for teams to move rapidly quickly working together to clear out spaces. Much like how a SWAT Team would move when clearing a floor, they would move quickly shouting out to their team members when a room has been deemed clear. BF maps are generally quite the opposite. (Notice I use the word GENERALLY.) Openness and free range is the main aspect being pushed in BF. The maps, depending on the game mode, are tiered. Meaning when playing, lets say RUSH (which is equivalent to Attack&Defend style) when the first base is destroyed, another base on the same map is brought to view. This is where vehicles come into play. The team who uses them the most efficiently and generally the swiftest often come out the winner. The maps are therefore very very large in this sense. Where like Sabotage all you have to do is plant a bomb and the game is over, RUSH you plant a total of 10 bombs. (2 Plant sites, 5 bases = 10 Total Plants.) Games last longer because of the size of the maps, and therefore require, like Neo said, a very efficient team.

All in all the games have their similarities (attachments, guns, gameplay to an extent) but the games are largely different due to more than the two comparisons I provided. Each game is phenomenal, it just depends on your style Wink

well said mate,
furthermore, there are twats in all multiplayer games - i think if measured per capita, the twat to team mate ratio would be similar!

That was well said Hag, COD used to be like that with their maps but they seem to have dedicated themselves to a pure run'n'gun style now with the maps which is annoying as hell.  Might have to trade MW3 in for Battlefield once I'm finished with Spec Ops.

« Reply #16 on: November 11, 2011, 06:50:12 AM »

The pure run n gun stuff doesn't work for me. It's not fun when everything is so hectic that you can't keep track of what's going on, and there are constant deaths and explosions; that doesn't suit me at all. In COD 4 and even going into MW2, the maps made it easy to hold down a spot so I could control the engagement and dictate the pace of the game myself. Black Ops was so anti camper that the erratic spawns and easily accessible maps made holding down a spot harder. If it really does play fast paced with Black Ops maps, then that's just too much chaos. If running and gunning is the only way to play, I don't think I will.

I just know that I enjoy Battlefield games more than COD games (multiplayer that is).

I hate playing COD and checking an alley, turn around and then get shot in the back of the head from someone spawning. Really pisses me off that does.

Ok so not a full review but I've gotten a good taste of everything so here it is..

Campaign is hella fun, and really good which is suprising because almost all the minds behind MW and MW2 were gone during the making, unless MW3 story was preplanned before they were all fired? Anyways once I play it again on Veteran I'll have a good opinion on whether it beats out MW2 or CoD4 campaign.. I mean it was packed with so much cool stuff, but when you look at it from a realistic sense, it gets really stupid. And I'm talking about things like a plane splitting in half, or a subway train taking down 20+ underground pillars, or a guy in a car continuously getting hit and not dying, just so much of it was stupid IMO. So to sum that, a lot of the campaign was made to look pretty rather then realistic.. oh well.
Last mission was a huge disappointment, it was just lame to end 3 games with Makarov just hanging there and Captain Price smoking a cigar.. I'm really not sure whether the GoW3 ending or MW3 ending was worse. There obviously wasn't any game cliffhangers since Makarov is dead & Russia + US are in Peace, but the direction the company will go with making their next game is a big one.
MW3 campaign will get a 4/5 from me.

Spec Ops is basically the same thing as MW2, really good but no Replay value. Not much else to say about it IMO.. Now Survival is really fun, I think it has a good amount of replay value, not as much as Nazi Zombies, but it's up there. The crates filled with stuff are fun to explore and use the variety of equipment available. The ranking system is really nice because to unlock more you need high ranks and stuff. I really don't know what else to say lol, I mean you really need a hands on experience to get the feel for yourself.

Multiplayer is a lot of fun, I mean everyone is saying how this is just a MW2 expansion pack but it's not. This game plays nothing like MW2 at all.. I think of it as CoD4 with very narrow maps, but has the MW2 look to it. The multiplayer designers did an awful job with arranging everything, because it's all very cluttered, annoying to navigate through menus, and overall just a mess. They ignored the good things from MW2 and Black Ops that made the menus look pretty sadly, but whatever. At the start I felt very overwhelmed with everything but you get used to it. The strike package(killstreaks) are great in this game, it does exactly what it is designed to do for. It's nice being rewarded with things like Stealth Bombers, EMPs, etc while being an objective player and putting up scores like 30-23, while in MW2 to get those you'd probably end up camping your ass off with a 30-5.. Assault is for killstreak rewards, like basic CoD4 to Black Ops, while Support is racking up kills, objective actions, etc no matter how many deaths you have. It's hard to explain, but yeah lol. Then specialist is pretty stupid, and almost useless.. It basically just gives you more perks and that's it.. whatever. Like I said maps are pretty good, I mean there are almost no points on any maps where you can just overlook the whole map, you can only get a view of sections of the map.  It's funny though how it works because basically all the maps are designed for CQB, yet the CQB guns suck the most(SMG and Shotgun). It's pretty gay how easy it is to quickscope in this game, but they wanted the fan boys back so whatever.. Also the snipers are extremely OP, just pick one up and you can run around using it and get decent scores sadly. If you want to legit snipe, go play BF3.. The new game mode Kill Confirmed is pretty good, it keeps you on the edge and moving around A LOT.. Team Defender is soo bad because all people do is put the flag down and camp it while the other team tries to get it. It really pissed me off on how they made it so when you Noob Tube someone, it shows that they killed you with the gun in the kill feed.. They are trying to hide it and it's just stupid. I'm still shocked that since the whole tubing outbreak in WaW and especially in MW2, BO and MW2 did nothing to put a major fix on it.. I really can't see anyone complaining to IW about them getting rid of tubes in MP...  If you are really not considering getting the game, I'd just rent it used from GameStop to see if you like it..you really need a 10-20 hour hands on experience with the game before you can judge it.. There's so much more to talk about, but I could go on forever.. if you have anything you want me to talk about in the game ask and I'll give you a nice in depth opinion.

YAY! Battlefield FTW!

Seriously... There is a lot more options for combat tactics in BF. I was soooooooo darned amazed when I saw players covering each other and moving forwards in bounds to take the Metro station. It's what is missing in COD.

The 1x IRNV scope though is the ultimate killer for me... As I have partial colour blindness it is hard to spot the enemy... Yay for the IR scope. Though I did get ghosted when this one guy used thermal camo I think. Got shot from someone right in front of me and I didn't see them.

Oh and did you know you can shoot down planes with the Javelin Anti Tank weapon in BF3?

BF3 took a step in the CoD4 direction.. it's a lot of Run and Gun in that game too.. I mean CoD still has it beat by miles by how fast paced it is, but BF3 runs nothing like Bad Company 1 or 2..

I haven't played BF3 since last Sunday and when I popped it in today for a few matches it felt so refreshing. I'm going to have a good Winter this year playing GoW3, BF3, MW3, Saints Row 3, Assassins Creed: Revelations and Madden 12

I'm sorry but run n gun doesn't happen so much in BF3. If you do it's usually in with your teammates and that is just assault mode rather than "running around like a brainless rabbit on crack" that COD games are.

I don't think that COD has it beat by miles at all... in fact I think the exact opposite. But then again I like games that need a little more intelligent thought than twitch gaming. MW3 is just more of the same thing... repackaged.

COD4 is still the best out of the lot because it was the first of the series... then it got boring. Does anyone know if they have bullet proof leaves like in MW2?

Its really amazing how different BF3 is for PC vs. 360. I'm not even talking about graphics or skill, I'm talking player gameplay. Its played so differently on the 360, much faster paced and much more jerky. Is that because of the controls? PC is so much slower and more methodical, I find myself sniping in one spot for an entire game on PC vs. 360 where I move after each kill.

Back to the original topic....I just made it to the 19th wave on the final survival map and that shit was insane.  Playing solo i was relying on two sentry guns and the riot shield troops as my back up and that last wave just walked right through them lol.  Spent the last of that wave trying to run from them all and the helis ducking from cover to cover to recover my health lol.  God dam that was nuts, the difficulty on those maps is on insane and you face Bomb squads, Chemical warfare, Claymore experts, Choppers & Armored Juggernauts.   Might have gone further if the dogs with C4 strapped to them hadn't blown up right in front of my turrets lol.

- Play Team Deathmatch on BF3 and you will see the Run and Gun
- Agreed on the brainless rabbit lol
- I said that CoD has it beat by miles in game pace Tongue
- I'm going with MW2.. best MP(and if almost all IW stayed, there would have been more postlaunch support.. and almost everything bad about MW2 was patchable.. while BO and MW3.. not so much.
- And no the bullet proof leaves were patched in like June '10

mw3 sh1ts all over mw2. and its all because of map design. cod4 had the best maps by far, and these new maps are up there.
and whoever said the graphics look like shit is nuts, they are top end, killing mw2!
i had all but given up on the cod franchise, but this release has thrown me back, as i find the maps flow the same as cod4-you have a choice on most maps to either set up camp or run around like a speed freak on payday.

im still loving it.

19 on your own is crazy!.. i reached 24 with a mate. and that was full on!....good job mate!

I tend to play Conquest a lot in BF3. I thought it would be run n gun nightmare but it's actually pretty tactical. Occasionally it does go a little nuts but that's war heh.

Jace, maybe I haven't given MW3 multiplayer a chance but that's only because I don't want to kill 360 joypads when I get killed stupidly due to the 2 second prediction/corner lag. If I die in BF3 I laugh it off... In COD I end up screaming "BULLSHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET" at the TV and throwing my controller across the room and haven't seen any evidence that MW3 is anything of the same... Then there is the horrifying "Sticky Reticule" that you can't turn off. I HATE BACKSEAT DRIVERS FOR MY JOYPAD FFS. It's not a help, it's a frickin hinderance. Why the hell won't they let you turn the frickin thing off.

No, not playing MW3 multiplayer is actually going to save me money on replacement controllers. Plus I don't have to spend money on the useless ELITE thingy.

I would have to disagree with that Jace, theres no strategy to these maps, camp or run thats it.  Theres so many different ways to go your almost guaranteed to get shot from the side or behind 2/3 times.

Thanks i got up to wave 30 on Seatown i think is its name on my own but thats on an easier difficulty, those final maps are nuts lol.

Yeah these maps suck.. I've noticed that from CoD4, MW2, and MW3, the maps just get tighter and smaller..

I've heard the same things about the maps. They only allow for constant CQB battles, and running will get you shot in the ass.

nah man. i dont know how you guys play the game but in TDM i camp till i get a kill, then move to a different spot and camp till i get a kill etc..... these maps are perfect for this technique....but then i liked W@W, hated mw2 and blackops..... i dunno each to their own i guess but all my mates love them too.

I have to say that I loved COD4... Was a bit miffed with MW2 and just can't be arsed with MW3. I think the problem is the fact that it just feels like a map pack or a mod of COD4... which in a sense it is because they have used the same engine. It's an engine that really needs more destruction, at least like BF3.

I think what we need in a multiplayer is an engine that gives you the option to open windows and doors, destroy lighted areas etc. Basically do things you can do in real life. It would really improve the tactics in the game... ie if you see an area that is normally lit up it could have an enemy in there... so throw a flashbang or a flare in before clearing it out. Stuff like that. Running around like nutters going "BANG, YOU'RE DEAD" is basically what 6 year olds do.

I'm planning on hitting 10th in this game.. Why? Because I haven't hit legit 10th since WaW, and in MW2 I got to 3rd and Black Ops I got to 2nd.. Also because if Treyarch does do a Black Ops 2, then I will most likely only be getting a few prestiges in. Also because it's really easy to rank up in this game, and the last 10 ranks or so are very easy to beat.. And at my pace it should take about 10 days of ingame play to hit 10th, or less.. Since 4 hours of the 24hrs it took me to hit first was me messing around.. We'll see..

YES trees and shit will protect you from shit.  I just missed hitting two guys with a predator missile on Village because 2-3 trees were above them and blocked the missile from killing them.  Sad
